Since I’m planning to see The Who in a couple of weeks I decided to add some of their best moments. Here are three of them.
Won’t Get Fooled Again, which shows Pete Townshend and Roger Daltry in full energetic frenzy, as well as Keith Moon‘s maniacal drumming.
And here they are doing My Generation. Two highlights: Keith Moon’s drumming and Pete Townshend’s guitar smashing at song’s end.
The last is from 1967 and is on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour where unbeknownst to anyone, including the other band members, Keith Moon had some dynamite secreted in his drum kit, which he set off at the end of the song, right after Pete smashed his guitar amid the planned smoke. You can see the shock on everyone’s faces. Luckily no one was injured.
The Who were definitely one of the more innovative of the early British bands, having created if not the first rock opera, then at least the first rock opera album, Tommy, followed by their opera masterpiece Quadrophenia.
